Inadequate Human Resource biggest impediment to Vocational Training

Members of the Education Committee led by the Chairperson and Murinduko Ward MCA Hon. Charles Nyamu, yesterday toured various Vocational Training Centers (VTCs) with a view to ascertain challenges facing the institutions.The Committee found out that most VTCs have chronic shortage of personnel with some Centres having less than three parmanently employed tutors.

Aggrieved Members of Mutira Farmers Cooperative Society Petition the County Assembly

A section of members of Mutira Farmers Cooperative Society limited today petitioned the County Assembly with a view of addressing what they say is contrary to the principle of equity.
Mr. Mwai Chomba, Mr. Josephat Miano and Mr. Peter Muriuki today appeared before the joint Committee on Agriculture and cooperatives which was co-chaired by Wamumu Ward MCA Hon Peter Njiru and his Kangai Ward counterpart, Hon. James Wambu.

Pomp and Colour as Governor Waiguru and MCAs Mark Jamhuri Day Celebrations in Style.

Members of the County Assembly led by the Speaker Hon. Muteti Murimi, today joined Governor Anne Waiguru in marking Kenya’s 60th anniversary since attainment of independence from British colonialists.
The event, which was held at Good Samaritan Secondary school grounds in Mwea West Sub County, saw thousands of residents from all walks of life join the rest of Kenyans in celebrating the heroes and heroines who fought tirelessly in ensuring that the Country got full independence from the white settlers in 1963.

Assembly Adjourns for a Long Recess

The County Assembly has adjouned regular sittings for a long recess.
The second session has seen the assembly under the leadership of Speaker Hon.Muteti Murimi pass various bills including the Kirinyaga County Climate Bill 2023, the Kirinyaga County Inspection and Enforcement Bill 2023, the Kirinyaga County Investment and Development Authority (Amendment) Bill 2023, The Kirinyaga County Finance Bill 2023, and The Kirinyaga County Healthy Facility Improvement Fund Bill 2023. The assembly has also approved the CIDP, ADP and the CFSP 2023 and debated on and adopted several motions that have seen increased effeciency in the delivery of services in the county.

Committee on Public Service and Administration meets to vet nominees to the panel constituted to recruit a County Secretary.

The Committee on Public Service and Administration has this morning conducted a comprehensive vetting on nominees nominated to serve as members of the selection panel that will oversee the recruitment and appointment of a County Secretary and the Chairperson of the County Public Service Board.
The committee chaired by Hon. Gichangi Bernard interrogated the nominees on their academic qualifications, professional competence, their understanding of the responsibilities associated with the position, their commitment to public service values, and any potential conflicts of interest.

MCAs Okay report on the County Budget Review and Outlook Paper (CBROP)

Members of the County Assembly have welcomed the CBROP report which is prepared in line with section 118 of the Public Finance Management (PFM) Act of 2012.
While presenting the report in a plenary session this morning, the Budget Chairperson and Kiini ward MCA Hon. Geoffrey Gakuru observed that the County’s own source revenue recorded a 61 percent growth to reach Kes. 587 million in the last financial year.
This was partly attributed to the County’s aggressive revenue mobilization initiatives and revenue automation measures undertaken during the year under review.

Sigh Of Relief For People Living With Disability As Mcas Work Tirelessly To Craft Bill

Persons living with disability will soon enjoy enhanced privileges once a Bill, currently in drafting stage, is debated and adopted by Members of the County Assembly.
One of the proposals in the envisaged Bill is to establish the Kirinyaga County Board for Persons Living with Disabilities which will be headed by a Chairperson who will be appointed by the Governor and approved by MCAs.
