Ward Representatives have unanimously passed the Kirinyaga County Alcoholic Drinks Control Bill, 2023 which will henceforth establish a framework for licensing, regulation and production of alcoholic drinks in the County.
The Bill comes as a relief for residents who have been gravely affected by the ramifications of illicit liquor as witnessed recently when at least 20 people lost their lives in Kangai Ward.
𝗣𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝘆 S𝗲𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 M𝗮𝗷𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗵𝗮𝘂𝗹 𝗮𝘀 𝗠𝗖𝗔𝘀 P𝘂𝘁 F𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 T𝗼𝘂𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗕𝗶𝗹𝗹.

Members of the Transport and Infrastructure committee led by Kariti Ward MCA Hon. Jeremiah Makimi, are today working on final touches of the Kirinyaga County Transport and Parking Bill, 2023 which underwent first reading late last year.

Members of the County Assembly yesterday unanimously passed a motion paving way for automation of all building plans in the County.
Through the committee on Lands, Physical Planning and Urban Development which is chaired by Tebere Ward MCA Hon. Peter Karinga, members noted that the move will fasten the approval process while also reduce corruption which has been rampant in various parts of the Country in the recent past.
School Feeding Program in all 198 Early Childhood Education Centers Underway as Members Pass Motion to that Effect

School Children in all 198 Public Early Childhood Education Centers across the County are set to enjoy free meals after Members of the County Assembly recommended budgetary allocation to the program.

Assembly Participates in the Kamweti Agricultural Fair.

As part of its outreach program the Assembly took part in the Kamweti Agricutural Open Day. The initiative was aimed at deepening the public’s understanding of constitutional mandates of the County Assembly. Key among the areas where members of the public were taken through include the legislation process, roles of Members of the County Assembly and updates on the laws enacted by the third assembly.
Public Accounts And Investment Committee (Piac) Urge Kicowasco Management To Be Prudent In Use Of Public Resources

The management of Kirinyaga County Water and Sanitation Company (KICOWASCO) has been urged to take necessary steps in ensuring that public resources are spent prudently.
This follows the Auditor General’s report in the water company for the year ended 2022 that raised eyebrows on the Board of Director’s spending which exceeded the budget by 68 percent hence breaking the recommended WASREB guidelines.
Education Information Management System underway as members pass motion

Members of the County Assembly have this afternoon passed a motion that seeks to compel the Executive to set up an Education Information Management System (EIMS) which will make it efficient for the department of education to carry out its mandate.
Led by the Chairperson of the Education Committee who is also the Murinduko Ward MCA Hon. Charles Nyamu, Members urged the department of finance and economic planning to allocate resources towards commencement of the project in the next fiscal year.
Assembly Approves the Appointment of Nominees to the Positions of County Secretary and the Chairperson of the County Public Service Board

Members of the County Assembly have approved the appointment of Mr. Henry Antony Kimathi to the position of the County Secretary and Mr. Teddy Njeru Muchiri to the position of the Chairperson of the County Public Service Board.
Alcoholic Bill In Final Stages As Members Deliberate Key Regulations And Amendments

Members of the County Assembly are at the moment deliberating key amendments and regulations of the much awaited Kirinyaga County Alcoholic Drinks Control Bill, 2023.
