The Committee on Public Service and Administration has this morning conducted a comprehensive vetting on nominees nominated to serve as members of the selection panel that will oversee the recruitment and appointment of a County Secretary and the Chairperson of the County Public Service Board.
The committee chaired by Hon. Gichangi Bernard interrogated the nominees on their academic qualifications, professional competence, their understanding of the responsibilities associated with the position, their commitment to public service values, and any potential conflicts of interest.
The nominees who appeared before the committee were Mr. Dedan Kimathi Ngunguru Gikunju who has been nominated to chair the selection panel, while Ms. Eunice Njambi Kinyua, Ms. Margaret Nyanagati Gichahi, Mr. Erick Murage Gachoki and Mr. Zabron Njega Muchiri have been nominated to be members of the selection panel. The key term of reference is to competitively recruit and appoint suitable persons to the positions of the County Secretary and the Chairperson of the County Public Service Board. The panel is constituted pursuant to the County Governments (Amendment) Act 2020.
Leading the process the chairperson of the committee noted that the vetting process was crucial for upholding transparency, accountability, and the overall quality of public service appointments in the county.
Members of the committee present in the meeting were Hon. Geoffrey Gakuru; vice chair, Hon. Jeremiah Makimi, Hon. Kenneth Ndambiri andHon. Suzie Mhesh.
The committee is subsequently expected to table its report on 4th December 2023 for debate to enable the house consider the matter and interrogate the findings and recommendations of the committee
