The County Assembly has resumed plenary sittings after a two month long recess to a full in-tray of legislative business.
In this third session the County Assembly is expected to consider key bills including:
a)The Kirinyaga County Disability Bill 2023
b) The Kirinyaga County Alcoholic Drinks Control Bill 2023,
c) The Kirinyaga County Public Participation Bill 2023,
d) The Kirinyaga County Empowerment and Development Bill 2023,
e) The Kirinyaga County Transport and Parking Bill 2023, and
f) The Kirinyaga County Agricultural, Technical and Vocational Training Bill 2023.
The MCAs are also expected to consider a petition on Tea Reforms, a petition by aggrieved members of Mutira Farmers’ Cooperative Society against the society management committee, the secretary manager, and the CECM Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives, a petition from Consumer Grassroots Association and a petition from Mau Mau Veterans Association. The assembly will also be debating on several motions.
Welcoming members from the recess Speaker of the County Assembly Hon Muteti Murimi commended the MCAS for their dedication and commitment to duty which has seen the assembly pass a total of six bills in the last session and debate on and approve sixty seven motions.
In his remarks the Speaker noted that the he is optimistic that the third session will be a vibrant one and implored on all members to be committed as they embark on their legislative and oversight roles.
The morning session also saw MCAs consider and approve the membership of the County Assembly Business Committee. Members of the County Assembly approved to sit in the House Business Committee are Hon. Muteti Murimi; chairperson, Hon. Daniel Mbungu, Hon. Peter Njiru, Hon. Benson Ngahu, Hon Beatrice Mitaru, Hon. Grace Kamau and Hon. Susan Ndirangu.
The committee is a sessional committee reconstituted every session as guided by the County Assembly Standing Orders. While approving the membership the MCAs expressed confidence in committee’s ability to deliver on its mandate.
