Members of the County Assembly have called for the revitalization of the Kirinyaga Agricultural Training Centre in Kamweti.
In a report by the Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries Commitee MCAs observed that the centre was not reaching its full potential.
Moving the motion, Hon.Fredrick Maina of Inoi ward called on the management of the institution in collaboration with the County Department of Agriculture to improve access to agricultural technology, provide quality training facilities for agricultural development and promote sustainable land use.
In his remarks Hon. Jinaro Njamumo commended the institution for the remarkable improvement in revenue collection over the last nine months, but noted that the institution’s revenue generation avenues were not fully exploited. He called for the operationalization of the water purification machine at the centre inorder to increase revenue collection.
In her remarks Hon.@ Grace Kamau called on the management to embrace value addition on their dairy products to generate more income.
Speaking in favour of the report the Leader of Majority Party Hon.Muriithi Mbungu called upon the CECM for Agriculture to fastrack the issuance of a title deed to the centre.
In a session chaired by the Speaker Hon. Muteti Murimi the MCAs expressed their confidence in the institution and affirmed their support to the centre. The centre offers training on relevant farming technologies, provides facilities for carrying out farm trials of relevant technologies and also runs a model farm for training purposes.
