Governor Anne Waiguru today took the better part of the afternoon sharing development milestones that the County government has achieved over the last one year.
Through the ‘state of the County address’, the Governor showcased various development projects that the County executive has achieved in various departments.
On health, the Governor said that Kirinyaga was working towards fulfilling the Universal Health Care (UHC) program as witnessed recently when 1205 Community Health Promoters (CHPs) were brought on board.
She said that each of the recruited health promoters will be responsible for 100 households and will be remunerated jointly by the County and National Governments.
The Governor further reiterated that the County is in the process of recruiting an extra 50 medical practitioners to cater for the rising number of patients at the newly commissioned Kerugoya Level 5 hospital.
She also said that Kimbimbi and Kianyaga level 3 hospitals will soon be upgraded to level four hospitals once the ongoing construction and equipping is completed.
In a bid to decongest the various sub county hospitals, Governor Waiguru reiterated that 9 new dispensaries are currently operational with an extra 10 in the pipeline.
On Education, the Governor said that bursary financing totaling to Kes. 414 million had been disbursed over the years with an additional Kes. 148 million set aside for disbursement this financial year. The Governor also set the ball rolling for Early childhood education when she said that a total of 28 state of the art classrooms had been constructed and equipped with 48 others slated for renovation.
On agriculture, Members of the County Assembly were briefed that a total of 50,000 households had benefited from the famous Wezesha program with a total of Kes. 380 million disbursed towards various projects across the County.
On roads and infrastructure, the Governor reiterated the County’s continued commitment on improving accessibility across the County. “I have been at the forefront of lobbying the National government to upgrade our major roads to bitumen standards and I am glad that H.E. President William Ruto has launched the construction of 54 kilometres of Sagana-Thiguku, Mururi-Kiumbui-ini, Kirwara-Kagio and Karaini-Kangaita road” the Governor said.
The state of the County Address is an annual event where the Governor highlights key development milestones of the County government pursuant to Section 30 (2) K of the County Governments Act of 2012.
