Mutithi Ward MCA who is also the Assembly Deputy Speaker Hon. Jinaro Njamumo, has this afternoon sought answers from the County Executive Committee Member in charge of Education Hon. Veronica Waweru, on the extent of the County’s preparedness in recruiting additional Early Childhood Development teachers.

Hon. Njamumo, in his question to the concern CECM, noted that the recommended Teacher pupil ratio stands at 1 teacher for every 25 pupils hence the need to recruit additional teachers to fill the current shortfall.

Moreover, the Wamumu Ward MCA who also doubles up as the leader of Minority Party Hon. Peter Njiru, is seeking a response from the County Executive Committee Member in charge of Health Hon. George Karoki on the criteria and procedure used to waive medical bills to needy and vulnerable patients in the County.

He also wants to know the actual amount of Medical and Mortuary fees waived in the 2023/24 financial year. Speaker of the County Assembly Hon. Muteti Murimi, directed the questions to the respective line departmental committees.

In the meantime, Members have unanimously passed a motion that seeks to integrate the Kenya National Oral health policy in the County health department. A cross section of members including Hon. Grace Kamau, Hon. Milka Thoithi, Hon. Fredrick Maina, Hon. Bernard Gichangi and Kanyekine Ward representative CPA Waziri Moses, noted the need for allocation of a budget to implement state of the art oral health services.

Kangai Ward MCA Hon James Wambu, urged the need to recruit additional oral health personnel to bridge the shortfall currently being experienced.

Other members who gave nod to the motion include Hon. Lucy Njeri, Hon. Jane Wangu with Hon. Harrison Kariuki who represents persons living with disability, agitating for a programme to promote oral health amongst residents.
