Assembly Approves The Appointment of MR.Robert Githinji Njagi as The Chairperson of the Rura; and Urban Affordable Housing Commitee

Members of the County Assembly have approved the appointment of Mr. Robert Githinji Njagi as the chairperson of the Rural and Urban Affordable Housing Committee.
The Rural and Urban Affordable Housing Committee is established pursuant to Section 34 of the Affordable Housing Act, 2024 and is mandated to develop a framework for the attainment of affordable housing, advise the Governor on affordable housing programmes in the county as well as develop programmes for affordable housing investments. The committee is also tasked with assessing the trends, status, demand and supply of affordable housing in the county.
MCAs Approve the Appointment of Shujaa Rose Wanjiru Wachira as Chief Officer in the County Department of Administration.

Members of the County Assembly have given a nod to the appointment of Shujaa Rose Wanjiru Wachira O.G.W as the Chief Officer for the County Department on Administration, Special Programs and Liaison.
The approval comes after rigorous vetting process during which Ms. Wachiraโs academic qualifications, experience and suitability for the role were closely examined and a report tabled on the floor of the assembly.
Members seek answers from County Executive Committee Members

Mutithi Ward MCA who is also the Assembly Deputy Speaker Hon. Jinaro Njamumo, has this afternoon sought answers from the County Executive Committee Member in charge of Education Hon. Veronica Waweru, on the extent of the Countyโs preparedness in recruiting additional Early Childhood Development teachers.
Hon. Njamumo, in his question to the concern CECM, noted that the recommended Teacher pupil ratio stands at 1 teacher for every 25 pupils hence the need to recruit additional teachers to fill the current shortfall.
Assembly Resumes Sittings After a Short Recess

MCAs have resumed regular sittings after a short recess for part four of the third session. The MCAs resume sittings to a full in-tray of legislative business. The upcoming session is set to be a productive one, with several significant bills on the agenda. The Kirinyaga County Public Participation Bill, 2023, The Kirinyaga County Disability Bill, 2023, The Kirinyaga County Flags and Other Symbols (Amendment) Bill, 2024 The Kirinyaga County Water and Sewerage Services Bill, 2024.

Members of the County Assembly have today passed a total of Kes. 8 billion for the 2024/25 financial year. The departments of Health, Education and Agriculture have emerged as the biggest gainers with Kes. 2.1 billion, 392 million and 212 million allocated respectively. Needy and vulnerable students have a reason to smile as Members have allocated a total of Kes. 161 million towards the Bursary kitty.

Members Of The County Assembly Have Given Concurrence To Two Critical Documents Which Will Be Helpful In Spearheading Planning In The County.

In the afternoon of Monday, May 6, 2024, members unanimously voted in favor of the Kirinyaga County Spatial Plan 2021 โ 2031.
The plan gives an overview of existing land use patterns, projected future land use needs, and regulations which will guide planning in a particular area within the County.
Additionally, the plan aims to improve coordination of development in the County by providing linkages between different activities within the County and its hinterlands.

Good News for Parents & Students as Governor Waiguru Launches Bursary Worth 147 Million

Students from needy backgrounds have a reason to smile following todayโs intervention by Governor Waiguru when she launched bursary worth Kes. 147.5 million.
The bursary will benefit a total of 35,656 secondary school students, 5,443 tertiary students and 3,907 University students from humble backgrounds across Kirinyaga.
MCAs Push for Enhanced Bursary & Ward Development Kitty

Members of the County Assembly are pushing to have an enhanced bursary and Ward development fund in the 2024/25 financial year.
Speaking yesterday while debating the County Fiscal Strategy Paper (CFSP), Kanyekine MCA Hon. CPA Waziri Moses Maina said that development needs at the ward level are at an all-time high hence the need to increase the Ward Development Fund from the proposed Kes. 20 million per ward to at least Kes 30 million in the next financial year.
