Members of the County Assembly have discommended the performance of the county in revenue collection for the financial year 2021/2022The MCAs were speaking this afternoon during the adoption of a report by the Finance and Economic Planning Committee on the scrutiny of the fourth quarter budget implementation report for the financial year 2021/2022. The report tabled by Hon Thomas Mwangi Muriuki-MCA Múkúre ward pointed to glaring shortfalls in revenue collected as compared to the targeted revenue. In her submission nominated MCA Hon. Lucy Njeri expressed her displeasure with the directorate of Weights and Measures in the County which according to the report collected a paltry Kshs 100 as revenue in third quarter of the 2021/2022 FY.In her speech Hon.Grace Kamau noted that no county department met its revenue collection target which reflected the county’s struggle to handle its fiscal affairs. She decried the poor performance in revenue collection particularly in the county quarries and liquor outlets. Speaking in support of the report Hon. Benson Ngahu of Gathigiriri ward decried the low budget absorption by the County Department of Gender which according to the report has the lowest absorption of the 2021/2022 FY budget. He called upon the CEC Finance and Economic Planning to put in place measures to optimize revenue collection and absorption of the budget.In her remarks, Hon. Irene Gathuku implored on the conty executive to put in place measures to seal leakages in revenue as well institute measures to fully digitize revenue collection. The report which was supported by a majority comes at a time when the county government is running a revenue mobilization campaign to encourage traders to pay levies due to the county By March 31st 2023.
