Members of the County Assembly have unequivocally given a go ahead to the appointment of committee members in the County and Sub County Hospitals in line with section 9(2) of the Kirinyaga County Health Service Act (2016). Below are persons who have been approved to serve in various Hospital Committees.

3. Euna Wanjira Muriuki – Representing the Youth.
4. Samuel Karuki Wambu – Representing People Living with Disability.

Members however rejected Mr. Francis Maina Bundi who was supposed to serve at Kianyaga Sub County Hospital because of failing to meet the requisite qualifications as dictated in the Kirinyaga County Health Services Act.

Tebere Ward MCA Hon Peter Karinga while giving his sentiments during the approval motion, urged the County Executive not to interfere with the decisions of the committee. He also encouraged the appointed members to ensure that there is accountability in management of hospital supplies especially medicine.

“Mr. Speaker, we have received complaints from residents that medicine has been disappearing shortly after stocking. It is in my view that we get rid of errant health personnel who engage in such gruesome acts” Hon. Karinga said.

Similar views were raised Kangai Ward MCA Hon. James Wambu, who urged the committee on health not to fall into the temptation of protecting health managers who were mismanaging health facilities.

Hon. Grace Kamau who was the mover of the motion and Vice chair of the Health committee, said that her committee will not relent in performing the mandated oversight responsibilities noting that hospital committees will have independence to make unilateral decisions.
