Members of the County Assembly have commended the County Public Service Board for embracing digitalization its operations.
In a debate on the board’s report to the assembly for the year 2024, the MCAs noted that the digitization initiative has enhanced transparency in recruitment and human resource practices and enhanced service access for county staff and job seekers. The report was tabled in the house by the Public Service and Administration Committee that is chaired by Kerugoya Ward MCA Hon. Eric Muchina
In his remarks to the motion, Hon. Muchina lauded the digitalization noting that the automation has eliminated delays in processing applications and promoted accountability in the boards operations.
On his part Kanyekiine ward MCA called for the augmenting of the budgetary allocation to the board to ensure that the board is adequately funded. He underscored the board’s critical role of shaping a competent and motivated county workforce.
Specially elected MCA Hon. Harrison Kariuki on his part lamented the lack of inclusivity in the county workforce. He called for a deliberate initiatives to include persons living with disability and if need be adoption of measures for affirmative action to accommodate persons living with disability.
On his part Murinduko ward MCA Hon. Charles Nyaga urged the board to prioritize timely replacement of staff who exit the service either through retirement or other causes to ensure continuity of service. He cited the department of Education which has experienced a shortfall particularly the ECDE teachers and the Department of Agriculture which has experienced a shortfall of agricultural extension officers.
The motion was supported by MCAs with Hon. Kenneth Ndambiri, Hon Daniel Mbungu, Hon. Fredrick Maina and Hon. Grace Kamau all speaking in support.
The Tuesday sessions also saw the assembly host students from Ngariama Secondary School in Ngariama Ward and Rwambiti Secondary School in Baragwi who visited the County Assembly on a study tour aimed at deepening their understanding of the county legislative process and the devolved system of governance. The students were hosted by the leadership of the County Assembly led by the Speaker Hon. Muteti Murimi, Majority Party Whip Hon. Muriithi Mbungu and Kerugoya ward MCA Hon. Eric Muchina. The assembly continues to welcome learning institutions for such tours as part of its outreach program aimed at fostering awareness and participation.
