Members of the County Assembly are in the process of passing key legislation which will propel collection of more revenue in the coming days.
The Kirinyaga County Inspectorate and enforcement services bill 2023 which is awaiting second reading, will give the County enforcement unit prosecutorial powers therefore enabling prudent collection of revenue and fines for offenders and non-compliant traders.
While on a study expedition in Mombasa County, Members of the Finance and Budget committees led by Hon. Kenneth Ndambiri and Hon. Geoffrey Gakuru were taken through practical enforcement lessons, which are expected to be implemented back in Kirinyaga.
The County has tremendously improved own source collection with revenue doubling from Kes. 280 million in the 2013/14 fiscal year to Kes. 587 million in the 2022/23 financial year making Kirinyaga the second most improved in revenue mobilization Countrywide.
Governor Anne Waiguru who is also the chairperson of the Council of Governors (COG), has been instrumental in advocating for enhanced own source revenue in Counties as that would enable the devolved units to accelerate development at the grassroots.
